Why We Communicate?
Communication is used for many reasons in life. It allows people to help discover who we are, establish relationships, or to allow us to change our attitude towards ourselves and others. As humans we communicate to gain a self-understanding and insight on people so that we are able to gain the trust and form relationships with people. We may not know this but when we are trying to learn about somebody we also learn about ourselves as a person. I know that when I meet someone new, I find out things about me that are quite similar to the person that I am meeting. According to Gamble & Gamble, they say that today, it is a given that we people try to communicate with people who are culturally different so that we can get some understanding of where people from different backgrounds come from.

We also communicate in order to form relationships. If people weren’t communicating, the world wouldn’t exist. Relationships are important for people because in order for the world to function people need to be talking to each other. Relationships are a chance for people to get to know more about each other. A couple times in my life I have known some girls that I thought were pretty cute. The only thing was that I wasn’t sure of what was going to happen if I did ask. Eventually I talked myself into asking them out. The answers that I got weren’t the ones that I was looking for but I feel like I could end up in a friendships. Also my freshman year in high school I bonded with a friend on the football team and now that we have grown up and gone our separate ways, as he went to Colorado State University on a football scholarship and I went here Estrella Mountain CC, we still keep in touch with each other and now it isn’t just a friendship, it’s a brotherhood.
We have also learned to communicate with others so that we can influence them. Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech was the most influential speeches that I have ever learned about. This man knew how important it was for people to interact with others. He did this job well I and I feel like that he influenced people for good. In many ways if he hadn’t done what he had done I wouldn’t even be here because I come from an interracial family. I am glad that he had done for the world.
With also need to communicate in order to develop our careers. Most careers are now at a place in time where people have to interact with others. According to Gamble & Gamble employers nowadays are concerned about the communication skills with the new hires. In both of my job I am always communicating with people. I love to do jobs that have me interacting with people. I am just that type of person who likes to do that.
