Communication is something we don’t really put a deep thought into, since we do it constantly. It is stated that communication is dynamic, which means since connected whatever happens to someone will affect others; “When we call communication a dynamic process, we mean that all its elements constantly interact with and affect each other” (Gamble and Gamble, 2013, p. 11). I have experienced this personally just like most people have. I notice that if I am sad it affects my friends and it could ruin their day and not have as much fun. Also, if a family member notices I’m mad it will upset them and bring the mood down.
It is also said that communication is irreversible, “Every human contact you experience is unique. It has never happened before and never again will it happen the same way” (Gamble and Gamble, 2013, p. 11). As much as we would like to take back something we said we can’t, or even we would like to go back and say something we did not say. Since I am a shy person there have been moments where I wish I could go back and say things I did not.
Cultural diversity can also affect our communication, “cultural diversity, including race, ethnicity gender, and age influence meanings we attribute to communication” (Gamble and Gamble, 2013, p. 12). For the most part everyone interacts with people of different cultures and this can affect relationships greatly. This can make communication difficult because you don’t want offend someone. For example in some culture they would find it disrespectful if a guest walked in their house with shoes on, where most of us would not see it as a big deal. While in some cultures some people will offer you food and it’s disrespectful to deny the offerings. Communication overall is very deep and is not as simple as we make think it may be.
